Microstructural and mechanical behaviour of a hadfield steel subjected to heat treatment
Main Article Content
Abstract
This work aims to analyze the microstructural and mechanical behavior of a Hadfield steel subjected to heat treatment. Samples were obtained through the casting process, then heat-treated at 1050 °C and water-cooled. The heat treatment resulted in a transformation from austenite-pearlite to martensite with residual austenite, homogenizing the structure and improving the mechanical properties of hardness. In the determination of the percentage of microconstituents, in the as-cast sample, the austenite structure occupies 61.11% of the area on the matrix, coinciding with the value recommended by ASTM A 128; after heat treatment, the transformation to the martensitic phase is 68.12%. In the hardness sweep performed on the as-cast samples, it was determined that they presented a hardness of 375 HV across the entire surface. After heat treatment, this property increased to 540 HV, associated with the presence of the martensitic structure.
